Alzheimer’s and Dementia Symposium Local Experts to discuss symptoms and care

MASSILLON, Ohio (January 8, 2016) – A panel of experts will gather at Hanover Healthcare Center on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 3-7 p.m. to talk about the latest trends in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. The panel will be moderated by Malone University’s Lauren Siefert, Ph.D., who chairs the school’s psychology department.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and tours of Hanover’s facility at 435 Avis Road NW, Massillon, will be available following the panel discussion.

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the national Alzheimer’s Association. Nearly every minute, someone in the United States develops the disease, the association says.

Hanover’s facility is uniquely equipped to care for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Our expertly trained, life enrichment specialists provide round-the-clock care. We’ve shifted staffing to accommodate Alzheimer’s and dementia residents’ schedules so they can be engaged at all hours of the day because oftentimes, their circadian rhythm is off. We also offer activity-based care that helps those with Alzheimer’s and dementia feel safe and engaged.

Research shows that multi-sensory environments offer a wealth of benefits to someone with dementia. Hanover’s facility, including our special Snoezelen Room, was designed to offer a multi-sensory environment. It offers: calming sounds, light therapy, aroma therapy scents, tactile stimulation and nature-based murals.

Hanover also offers specialized rehabilitation 7 days-a-week, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech. In addition, the facility provides specialized pulmonary care.
