What We Look For
What We Look For

For decades, CommuniCare has been dedicated to promoting the well-being of our residents, as well as our employees. We believe that each person within the organization has the power to make a real difference in the life of someone each and every day. Therefore, it is our mission to find those people who have the power to think the way we do. Do you?

The people who fit within our team share the belief that ordinary people make an extraordinary impact through the choices they make. Our employees choose to make a positive difference for themselves, their colleagues and in the lives of the residents we are grateful to serve. It is through individual contribution that a collective goal is attained.

Our goal is to enrich the lives of our employees and residents, through the values we commit to uphold. We know it’s in you. We want to bring it out. Do you have what it takes to lead a community of people dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others? When the work you do really matters, don’t you want to do it as part of an organization that realizes its most valuable asset is human?

We are focused on bringing out the super power in you. The CommuniCare Family of Companies is growing and is well-positioned to adapt to, and take advantage of the ever-changing demands of a competitive healthcare marketplace.

Testimonials

EDITH JONES

EDITH JONES

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Edith Jones and I have been an employee here at Forestville Health and Rehabilitation center since April 10, 2008. I really enjoy my job here at Forestville. What a housekeeper here at Forestville means to me: Each day I come through the door, I know the residents bring joy to me. They motivate me to perform my duties to keep a clean environment for them you see. My day is full of laughter and reminiscing with the residents about life experiences and memories of the good old days. How we are alike in many, many ways. The management staff here really goes above their standards to make the staff feel comfortable in performing their duties. In closing, I can only say these are just a few of the reasons why I stay here with CommuniCare.

CLARA BELL

CLARA BELL

I have been at Fayette Health for 25 years. When I started here in 1989, I was only going to be here for a year, but I am a people person and I fell in love with the residents. I am in housekeeping, and I love what I do and I also love working with all the GNA and nurses, just all the staff.

TRISHA JACOB

TRISHA JACOB

My name is Trisha Jacob, and I have been in long-term care for about 20 years. I first started working at CommuniCare in 2010. One nice thing is I really feel at home with the CommuniCare family, but especially at South River Health and Rehabilitation Center. I have worked in many facets of long-term care since that first taste of what it was like to help care for the elderly. Yet in so many ways it isn’t just caring about the elderly, it is caring for every age group including those I work with day in and day out. Long-term care in my opinion requires a level of compassion. It requires listening intently, and getting to the root of whatever is going on at the time. It is a gentle reminder that we only see the very tip of the iceberg most days, yet it is the base of the iceberg where most of it gets its strength. It is our job to chisel away at the base of other people’s iceberg to find out what is really going on. Many family members, patients, residents and co-workers have come to realize they can trust me to hold a confidence. It is easy for them to come into my office, close the door and just chat. They can now get off their hearts and their minds what is going on with their day. I love those special moments of connecting and reconnecting with those I come into contact with day in and day out. I love working here at South River where I have been the admissions director for over a year now. Coming to work each day isn’t really work to me. It is like coming home to my second family. This building, though over 30 years old, has a wonderful and warm feeling to it. Each day walking down the halls I feel that warmth and am honored to tour anyone who comes through our front doors looking for a place where mom or dad, son or daughter can come and recuperate. It is the little things that matter in this building like watching the way staff interacts with each other and especially with our residents. I am honored to be part of the ongoing process of life and all it has to offer each of us. I am happy with what I do and those I am able to touch each day.

THOMASIA YONGAI

THOMASIA YONGAI

My name is Thomasia Yongai; I have been an employee at Bel Pre Health and Rehab Center for the past five years. I really like working at Bel Pre because of the different types of residents I get to meet and care for as well as my fellow co-workers. The teamwork exhibited here is phenomenal; we are truly a family-oriented facility. I love being a nurse at Bel Pre. Coming to work every day is always a pleasant experience, even with challenging residents. I would recommend it for those looking to place their loved ones in a nursing facility, and also to those seeking employment.

MS. SHAWNETTE PUTMAN, LPN, WOUND CARE NURSE

MS. SHAWNETTE PUTMAN, LPN, WOUND CARE NURSE

I am currently employed at the Fort Washington Health Center (CommuniCare) as a licensed practical nurse/wound treatment nurse. I have enjoyed working at the facility for the past 19 years because I have met a lot of wise and intriguing residents, and I have gained a lot of wisdom from those residents. I have learned the importance of life because of my interaction with the residents. The many stories that they have shared with me about their life accomplishments and struggles they have overcome have made a significant impact in my life. My greatest joy and reward is received when I see the residents’ wounds progress and heal. Then those residents leave our facility, go back into the community and function without pain and without wounds. I am overjoyed and excited when they return to the facility for a visit and thank us for providing them with excellent care. I have met a lot of wonderful and devoted family members who are very appreciative and grateful for the care that we provided to their loved ones. In addition, I have had the pleasure of working with many co-workers, peers, family members and residents who I have grown to love and consider as my own family. I have observed a lot of nurses and staff members who go above and beyond their regular assigned duties to make sure that the residents and family members are happy. I enjoy working with my peers and those that are a part of the management team. Like a family, we don’t always agree, but we work together as a team for the common goal of the residents. I live in the local community and personally know some of the residents for whom I am responsible for providing care. I want to make sure that all of our residents receive the excellent care they deserve. I chose this profession as a nurse, and I perceive this profession as a ministry to which I am called to make a difference in the lives of others.

JULIET ABUDU

JULIET ABUDU

I have been employed here at Marley Neck Health for almost 12 years (hire date 6-24-2002). I started out as a GNA, then then moved up to the staffing coordinator/central supply. I love coming to work at Marley Neck. We have a great team here. It is like one big family. I enjoy making the residents laugh and just making them smile. While I am here it makes my heart feel good. I am here through the good times and bad times (staff and residents). That is what family is for. I do my best every day to make the resident know they are loved either by talking to them, singing, dancing or just giving a hug. I am a mother of one beautiful daughter. She also enjoys coming to my work and talking with the residents and doing crafts with them. I see how their eyes light up when she comes in. They enjoy seeing small children, and it makes their day. I love my job here at Marley Neck.

Our Team

We always think about the needs of the residents, who call CommuniCare home. Each year, when the holiday season arrives, we feel nostalgic about giving and receiving with those we love and those who love us most. Unfortunately, some of our residents don’t have active family members in their lives and would not otherwise receive the gifts of their wishes. We at CommuniCare recognize this and know that we are family to them. This is poignantly displayed in our CommuniCare Cares program.

CommuniCare Cares is a non-profit initiative, whereby each skilled nursing center has an active task force that identifies fundraising events, of which the proceeds are deposited into a CommuniCare Cares fund. The funds are used to purchase gifts for our residents, who have a wish that no one else can fulfill. A list of gifts is compiled at each of our communities and given to our corporate office. Volunteers then shop for these items, which are wrapped and driven to each nursing community by additional volunteers.

The joy, love and camaraderie that is felt among our employees and residents is something words cannot describe. It’s an experience and a magic that one can only truly feel through participation. These are the moments that define our purpose and the initiatives that display our pride in that purpose.

What’s equally of interest is the way in which these funds are raised. It is through fun, laughter and the smiles of our employees, all working toward a higher purpose that yields these meaningful moments.

Some initiatives that have been done to raise funds in the past include the following:

  • Car wash hosted by the management team in the corporate office and in our communities.
  • A pie-in-the-face drive where the leaders with the most tickets under their names earn a pie in the face.
  • Basket Raffles
  • Chili Cook-offs
  • Bake Sales
  • Cornhole Tournaments
  • CommuniCare’s Got Talent
  • Biggest Loser Competition
  • Creating and selling the CommuniCare Cookbook

Employee Awards

At CommuniCare, we all strive for excellence. However, every year, there are a handful of employees that serve as our guiding light. They are the ones whom we all strive to emulate, and it is very important to us that we recognize them as such. These employees are known to us as True Blue Champions—for they exhibit an unwavering commitment to excellence in all that they do.

There is a nominating process whereupon quarterly winners are chosen. The quarterly winner will receive rewards and recognition, and be eligible to be selected Employee of the Year. Each center’s Employee of the Year is eligible to be chosen as the company-wide Employee of the Year. The winner receives a significant financial reward, as well as notoriety at our annual company meeting.

Years Of Service

Loyalty is something that is important not only to CommuniCare as a company, but to the guests and residents we care for. There is nothing better than consistency of care, day in and day out. That’s why it’s important to recognize our most loyal employees. At certain intervals, employees will earn a special name-tag that acknowledges their devotion and loyalty to our company. It is our goal for each and every one of our employees to wear one of these badges.

Annual Meeting

One of the most fun times of the year—and something that makes us unique—is our annual meeting. Every year, we take a couple days to re-energize our culture, share our company vision, recognize the very best of our employees and have a whole lot of fun together. Our management staff, as well as a selection of employees from each center, is invited each year. The lasting impression we create is something that most have expressed as being an uplifting and superior experience.
